Was just about to complain about the smug-ness of Wii owners when I got a call from contact in Cork who has located me a console. Santa is very relieved.
I'm not a gamer so I don't know how it compares to current generation games but it looks gorgeous, and is a lot of fun. The level design is insanely inventive and jumping from planet to planet is fun. Someone described this as "Super Mario for the Ritalin generation" - probably apt.
It's the first xmas I've experienced the stress of a dad trying to get his hands on "this year's must-have toy" . You can't imagine how relieved and happy I was when I walked out of Argos with a Wii under my arm two days ago. I'm still bragging about it to Ursula :-)
I had started to 'refocus' the santa lists last night with a promise that I'd get a Wii for my birthday in March (hoping that was long enough). Of course, I was told that "Santa shouldn't have a problem as he doesn't use shops. He has elves!"
Yeah, try explaining to a 6 year old that due to unforeseen demand santa can't deliver Wiis til January 12th. I sympathize - I really do. BTW curry's in Mahon might be getting some in tomorrow - they can be phone after 8am but don't open til 10am.
Yep, last year I was on the motorbike rushing around Smyths' to get DS's - One pink and one black - the joy of having twins. They can share one Wii though. Weren't the remotes really hard to get last year as well?
ooh. forgot to say - @dbannon if you're looking for an extra remote, the Wii Play is a good option - it includes a remote and 10 mini-games for kids. These are really hard to get hold of too but I think I can get you one if needed. The remote normally costs about 45 euro - wii Play (remote and 10 mini games) costs between 50 and 60 euro. I picked one up in Smyth's yesterday for 60 euro but I know of a store here in cork which just got some in this afternoon (not sure if they're price is 50 or 60 euro).

@sxoop Thanks for the info. Seems Cork is the place to get all this stuff :)

Smyth's upped the price of wii play from 50 to 60 euro - demand has been so high.

Take a look at this video to see what I'm talking about - the level design is jaw-dropping. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-Qw1ClCVN8

Nobody, NOBODY designs games like an on-form Nintendo. SMG is a masterpiece.

@sxoop Regarding looks. Despite being on the least powerful (by a mile) console, SMG is the best-looking game I've seen this gen.
